root@DX-Spider:/home/n3bsq# chmod 01777 /var/lock/mrtg /var/lib/mrtg
all was good.
Here is the error I get

I installed mrtg by use of apt-get.
Did the indexmaker and added the mrtg entry to the spider crontab and
everything works.
When I do the mrtg all on a command prompt I also get the error, but
mrtg works fine.
