footprint and does what one expects (and has all the usual buttons
in the right place on windows). It is the most windows (xp) like

If you have ubuntu installed then try 'apt install
xubuntu-desktop' and reboot after the update
At the login prompt (and you will need to hunt for this because
different flavours of the launcher hide it in different places),
you will find a tab that offers to start a xubuntu session, select
that and away you go. The places to look for a tab are on the
actual login dialog box (top right down arrow) or clicking on each
of the (small) icons on the top right hand side of the screen
until you find a menu with that option in it. It is there on the
login screen, but they don't make it easy to find.
You only need to do this once. There after your choice "sticks"
over logins and reboots until you change it again.
