Where do you see this error? 

Could it be that 'localhost' isn't defined in the /etc/hosts file or not
pointing to the correct ip?

Try 'telnet localhost' to test this.

Did you made definitions in inetd.conf and services?

Please give us some part of the log where things went wrong?
