Hi Tony,
Have you altered /spider/scripts/startup at all?  There is a line in
there that could do this as below ..

#
# startup script example
#
# set maximum no of spots allowed to 100
# set/var $Spot::maxspots = 1
#
# Set registration on
set/var $main::reqreg = 1

notice the maxspots line.. has that been uncommented?
