It depends on whether you are using Linux or Windows.  In Linux you the
kernel AX.25 support features and set up the TNC port using axports and
kissattach.  In Windows you use the AGW packet engine.  The DX Spider
installation manual covers both of these in some detail, but the
AX25-HOWTO and AGW documentation are more complete.
