Tony:
DXSpider runs under Windows and Linux. The following comments are for
DXSpider while running under Windows, NOT Linux.

DXSpider is essentially an IP based piece of s/w. IP connections in
(user connects) and IP connections out (node connections). When running
under Windows, the AGW Packet Engine s/w is used as an interface between
the TNCs (AX25) and IP. You might consider AGWPE as another piece of
s/w running on top of DXSpider, in much the same way as the BPQ s/w
would run on top of other s/w and act as an interface to the TNCs.

So, to interface to the AX25 world, you need to install AGW Packet
Engine and then configure DXSpider accordingly. See section 6.2 of the
installation manual for the modifications to agwconnect.pm that need to
be made. Others have commented about configuring the KPC3 for AGWPE. I
forget who made the comment, but the KISS initiating command in AGWPE is
wrong. BTW, AGWPE puts the TNC into KISS mode (once you have the
correct command) and can take the TNC out of KISS mode when AGWPE is
shutdown.

Though a little simplistic, hopefully this gives you an idea of the
relationship between DXSpider and AGWPE while running under Windows. If
you run DXSpider under Linux, AX25 is native to Linux and you do not
need the AGWPE s/w.
