Are you getting error 11 in the compiles? This always equates to memory
problems under linux. Compiling the kernel has become the standard linux
memory test. 

Also, use Redhat 7.3, It is now pointless using the older releases. It
has the ax25 stuff compiled in as modules as default, so I cannot
conceive why you would want to compile the kernel up at all.

>From my point of view it also has a modern perl (far more important to
me!).
