Thanks Dirk,

A much fuller and more technical explanation.

Ian

As far as the code is concerned, the only line endings that I will
accept from TCP/IP connections are the ones ordained in the various
telnet RFCs, they are: <carriage return><linefeed> (preferred) or
<linefeed> (by itself).

These are general internet standards (see RFCs for any ascii based
'protocol' such as SMTP, NNTP, IRC, Telnet etc etc).

I specifically *won't* accept <carriage return> by itself. If you or
your clients are having trouble (probably with non-unix telnet clients)
then you will need to go into the set up of these clients and sort the
line endings out. It isn't possible for me to accept all combinations. I
have to choose either to accept <linefeed> or <carriage return> as the
'master' line end character. The standards say: use <linefeed>, so this
is what I do. Therefore <carriage return>, on its own, will not work.

If your clients are ex-radio, then it might be that they have their
terminal programs setup for talking to TNCs which use <carriage return>
as the line ending character. DXSpider will only accept these from a
connection marked as ax25. This, currently, is only possible via the
'client' program.
