I vote for number 1.

Please don't go back to number 3 as it will just mean that many nodes (including 
myself) will set up very limited updating again. It takes forever to show 300+ nodes on a 
1k2 user link. And yes, not all users have inet and can access the cluster with
speeds >128kb/sec.
