If the owner of QRZ.COM wants to keep allowing spider ops to link to
his site, he has to stop changing the interface.  This happened a year
ago,
didn't it?

Yes, that's the visible symptom.  I looked a bit with the debugger and
see an error coming back from the server that says bad
username/password.  However, I can see the correct ones being sent.
According to qrz.com web site, there has been some recent changes, so my
guess is that it's some associated problem.
