Firstly, it is very unlikely that this is a DXSpider problem. It runs in
user space and may crash and die, but I haven't (yet) known it to lock a
system up.

Secondly, you really should upgrade to CVSlatest.tgz, you won't regret
it.

Thirdly, random lockups of this type are almost always hardware related.
What happens if you try to repeatedly try to compile the linux kernel
(this is the standard linux memory and motherboard test)? 

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with Redhat 7.2. A newer perl would
be good but it isn't necessary.

Also, if you are getting random crashes of this type then there is a
good chance that your userfile will be (and get) corrupted which will
require a restore from user_asc. This isn't a very satisfactory process
under 1.49 (so is another reason to upgrade).
