[Dxspider-support] How to enable login password use on telnet?

I spent hours today to get login password work on telnet link without 
any success.

As sysop I created the initial password for a specific user. User can 
change this password, so the password is stored. However, SPIDER never 
ask password at login time from the user.

Setting $main::passwdreq to 1 doesn't make any difference.

I'm using the official 1.51 release.

What do I do wrong?
