Dan if you did an upgrade from an earlier version of Mandrake, and not a install and not reformating 
your home partition,( safest way ), you will may find reading the release notes usefull.

When you upgrade either from CD or via urpmi the kernel is not upgraded. Which means the modules are
also not upgraded.

I have spider running on Mandriva( old Mandrake new name) on LE2005 kernel-2.6.10 with no problems.

MDK 10.1 is old anyway why not upgrade to at least LE2005 or MDV 2006.
