It appears the CVS server is having problems again, although I get a 
slightly different message (the message may be dependent on the client 
software: 

cvs [update aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

In the past, these messages were generated when the servers were 
exceptionally busy, but a hardware upgrade supposedly handled that.
