Hi Guys,

sorry for this OT post but thought this is really a breaking news.

See our official press release below.

*First 50 MHz Licences in Hungary*

Budapest, 29 July, 2005.

HA5HRK

Three experimental radio licences signed and issued today for three
amateur radio organizations permits restricted amateur radio usage of
the 50 MHz band for the first time in Hungary for 65 stations.

The licence is valid for a period of 30 days starting 1 August 2005. The
aim of the experiment is to study whether amateur radio usage of the 50
MHz band on a secondary basis causes interference in the reception of
broadcasting stations. The frequency range permitted for the experiment
is 50.0500 – 50.5000 MHz, and the licence is valid for all operating
modes, including FM and digital modes, like – as an example – PSK.
Maximum effective radiated power (ERP) however is limited to 5 Watts.

The original licence request was submitted by Haros Radio Club (HA5HRK)
in June 2005. It was preceded by intensive preparatory work, which
included – inter alia – the studying of European licencing practices and
the history of opening the band for amateur radio usage in countries
with similar circumstances, the coexistence of amateur radio stations
and broadcasting stations, propagation and other phenomena of the 50 MHz
band. The licencing authority was very cooperative and decided to
broaden the circle of stations in the experiment by inviting members of
two other amateur radio organizations to participate. All three
organizations have submitted their lists of participanting stations, and
the three licences issued today contain a total of 65 stations.

The quick and positive response of the National Communications Authority
is exemplary and reflects the authority’s professional attitude and
willingness for cooperation, which may in the future lead to a more
general permission of amateur radio usage of the 6m band.

We hope that these radio amateurs, with their experience, international
reputation and the geographical location of their stations mean
guarantee to the success and professionalism of the experiment.
