Hi Tom,
I see node N3RA has changed to 4.4.25 and I wonder if you have noticed any difference?
On my Spider link to ARC with this latest version, the same problem persists.
Eric.

Hi Eric
When I first had this problem with version 4.4.23, Dave, W9ZRX, was looking at the ARC log, and reported to me that I was not sending the pings. When I looked at the spider debug log, I could see that I was sending them. Evidently ARC was throwing them away before they were being logged. Comparing the two logs gives a better picture.
As I understand what happened in version 4.4.23, a copy of the last packet received from a node was compared to the next incoming packet. If they were identical, then the incoming packet was thrown away. If the link is busy with PC19s, PC16s etc, then there might never be a problem. When all you send out on the link (like I do) is the every 5 minute ping and an every 14 minute PC50, two in a row pings can get tossed into the bit bucket. Increasing the obs count will get past this, but your round-trip-times will look terrible. I ended up changing my PC50 times to every 5 minutes. This logic also caused havoc with mail longer than 9 lines. The PC31s were getting discarded and the mail hung. (BTW, this has been fixed in 4.4.24)
I have no idea what Terry did in version 4.4.24, but it has not really cured the problem.

Hi Tom
I have a Spider node that was disconnecting every 10 minutes with a new version ARC.
I did an extensive test with a 4.4.24 ARC and my Spider cluster and Spider did not send a ping to ARC during the 25 minute test period (it was sending pings out on Spider links). It did receive pings every 5 minutes from the ARC and ignored every other one. I was getting disconnections every 10 minutes so I re-did the test after setting obs to 3. This time the unanswered ping dropped the obs count to 2 and the answered ping returned the count to 3 with no disconnection. It therefore appears for me that Spider doesn't ping ARC and it disconnects a link with ARC on the next ping following the obs count reaching 1 instead of zero.
So, oddly my result is different to yours. I can stay connected by increasing the obs setting. This is weird.

New ARC software was installed on N3RA, the node I connect to, last night.
Version 4.4.24. Except for the very first ping right after initialization,
my pings to N3RA are not answered. Setting OBS higher no longer works. I
tried it at 4.
I have turned pinging off (set/ping 0 n3ra) in order to stay connected.
