I'm running Ubuntu 5.10 with AX25 and spider.  It took me a while to  
get wireless networking going using ndiswrapper (although the  
Broadcomm chips are now supported) and I didn't want to risk breaking  
anything by upgrading.  I'll probably upgrade to the next release  
(7.04?), however.
