Did you see any 'C' characters in front of any of the files downloaded? 
You can try cvs update again and if you did, you should see them again.

If you did, delete those files and do the cvs update, they will be 
recreated. I would delete /spider/perl/DXMsg.pm and cvs update anyway.

Otherwise, you may well have a corrupt message in which you can find it by:-

grep 'eir return home. QSLs via homecalls.' /spider/msg/m*

delete that message and restart.
