I have all the install files that I saved from my last install if anyone needs them. I used these on a PERL 5.8.8.822 install
and it is currently running.

DB_File-1.815
Data-Dumper-2.121
msvcr71
Net-Telnet 3.03
TimeDAte
Time-HiRes

OK Folks,

N1HEJ is up and running.

Multiple attempts at getting perl setup all resulting in the error in
the subject line of this message re: installing DB_File....

Then I took the message from Dirk with the URL for DB_File-1.816 to
heart, even reading the included README.

Here's how on my WIN XP machine:

> At end of the download, instructed it to RUN

but I went on

c:\~\~\DB_File

> Did c:\~\~\DB_File\DB_File-1.816\>ppm install DB_File.ppd -- result
was as expected or at least no error message
(please note that the directories \~\~\ are real directories with real
names, but the names have no meaning for this discussion)
(the important thing is to do the ppm install from inside the directory
where DB_File.ppd resides)(I had not done this before, won't tell you
what I did do, may keep you from doing the same thing)

this one ran nicely once I got the \local & \local_cmd set up and ran
create_sysop/pl

users now connected

Thank you Dirk (and all others) for your help. I was scratching what
little I have left running into windows 404 trying to find non-existant
urls for older versions of all kind of things. It was a good game of
Catch 22.

I will be printing a copy of this note off and placing it in my diary.
If I can only remember that I did so.

Thanks again.

In the meantime, I have zipped up all the relevant files that I can find

in my Windows 5.8.7 version of activestate and you can get it here:

http://www.dxcluster.org/download/DB_File.zip

Make sure you unpack it from C:\ as it has all the files in the "right"
places.

I have no idea whether it will work. It is for IA32 only and should be
compatible with any 5.8.x perl.

Please try it and tell me how you got on.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND 5.6.x perls on any architecture.

Dirk
