[Dxspider-support] Next question

I had the same problem setting up a new computer at work!  Turned out the
DVD/CD drive was too new for Ubuntu to recognize.  Installed a second (and
older) drive and Ubuntu installed just fine....

Is there a boot selection to verify the media?

Sounds like a bad install disk or Ubuntu isn't handling some hardware
correctly. You could also try a different distro like openSUSE or Fedora.
Try the booting the "live" CD of a different distro first to test hardware
compatibility.
