su - sysop (enter password)
rm -rf * (make sure you are user sysop and in directory /spider 
otherwise you might need a complete reinstall of Ubuntu)
rm .* (this will give 2 errors, . and .. cannot be removed)
cd ..

su - sysop makes you user sysop and automatically changes the working 
directory to /spider
