I am a complete goof!!!!
When I did the su -sysop
Did not complete all the steps
I did not do the rm.*

So I had to do the following
sudo su (get root)
adduser --home /spider sysop
su - sysop
pwd- make sure I was in the spider directory.
rm -rf *
rm .* (this is the step I forgot)
cd..
git clone git://scm.dxcluster.org/scm/spider

Bingo it now works.
Time to read more in the manual.
Thanks to all.

Hi Mike,

you are probably missing a - (dash) between the "su" and "sysop"
at least this on my Fedora 10 system.

[root at linux ~]# su sysop
[sysop at linux root]$ pwd
/root

issuing the command 'pwd' .. you know on which folder are you in.

here is the right command:

[root at linux ~]# su - sysop
$ pwd
/home/sysop
$

This under my Fedora 10.. but I'm assuming it works also on other
distributions.
Let the group know

As far I know, on linux (please .. anybody correct me if I'm wrong
