Letting appart the way the issue is exposed, the can of worms has been
finally open.

Unfortunately serious events must occur for the people to be *really*
concerned about a problem which has been covered since long time. Being
aware of the insecurity of the big net today, we are still using naive
protocols like telnet to feed the info into ours. The results are at sight.

Steps must be taken in order to:
– Develope a secure net of nodes (secure protocols, origin and destiny
propper identification, info integrity checking, secure adding of new
nodes, etc.)

– Adequate id of users to allow them feeding info to this net. Let the
people use the net as client without id, but make it a must to upload info

– Adapt 1st: the sofware of nodes to these requirements, and 2nd: force
the client softwares (contest, logging, etc) to follow them. If you want
an information of quality, you must secure the info circulating (again:
certify origin, destination, information integrity, etc).

– Keep the nodes soft up to date. The developers’ efforts will be
useless if then you have an old and “relaxed” node. If you don’t mantain
it, you must be put out of the net (actually, there are dx-cluster
servers whose sysops are SK, or have their software without updating for
decades)

IMHO, there is no need to keep two nets apart. But if you are connecting
from an insecure node (let's say level 1) you can only conect to level 2
(secure) servers as a "passive" client, but never being able to upload
information. Soon the final clients (contesters & DXers) will know -and
do- which node connect to in order to have confidable and useful spots.

Or we start moving (all of us, whether sysops or clients) or the
dxcluster net will soon become unusable.
