Ok Keith

1.55 250 is the only version that works acceptably on Windows.

Several nodes are on Windows.

VM or install Linux is not always possible etc. etc

Trust me I've tried every possible option, with no luck.

I'm SysOp from 2004 of several services, and this is the only possibility.

OK, bad choice of words.  I consider any ‘master’ branch version to be very old :-)

Build 250 is the latest corresponding to 1.55 updated in January 2023.

Terry,

You’re connected to me and it’s all good.  However, I can see you’re running a very old version of dxspider (1.55 build: 250), this is something you really should look at updating as there’s a big push at the moment to get people onto the mojo branch.

I’m sure Kin will jump in and offer to help update it :-)

I do have a couple newbie questions for things I have not seen.

1.  Security - I turned on registration, but passwords, do Sysops normally turn this on? If so, I see the Sysop has to configure the first.  Is it possible to setup a script to automagically set the initial password to the users call sign and then hand control back to the user for setting something different?

Is there any best practices from an administration point of view.  Things to check / do at regular intervals?  I am thinking check for updates, patch system (normally I do that monthly) but is there anything from cluster operation that tends to be problematic I should monitor?
