if perl does not care about line endings and the script was not designed to execute from the shell, all is well.
 
Where is dxspider's crontab log located?

I'm trying to install the very neat check_build script on my node but I have two problems:
 
1. The file you get via wget seems to have Windows line endings which does not work on my Ubuntu machine. 
Should I just execute dos2unix after download in my crontab?

AFAIK perl does not care about line endings. For instance, a unix line ended version of DXSpider will work without any conversion on a Windows box. But it is a while since I experimented with this in the other direction. 

But dos2unix will fix that perfectly well.
 


2. When I try to execute the file manually, it crashes complaining that DXDebug.pm is not available. 
That file is in spider/perl but that folder is not in @INC. Will it still work as a cron job?
 

It is not a standalone program. It is a DXSpider command, so yes it will work in your DXSpider crontab.

Having looked at the script, it could easily be modified to allow it to be a stand alone program.
