[Dxspider-support] Connectivity issues

My vanilla spider seems to struggle connecting to other partners. That is, I have 1/connection definitions for the partners, 2/explicit commands in the startup script, and 3/crontab entries that all fail to produce connections. However, if I simply type the same commands in the console, some connections do get established. Any suggestions how to go about troubleshoot?
I suspect that a related issue is the following status messages:

What do these status messages mean and what do I do to get them to normal? All 3 servers "sit" next to each other on the same VPC subnet.
