Hello all. I want to share with you my recent experiences with Virtual
Box.
A few years ago I converted from a DXSpider installation in Windows to
using Virtual Box with a Debian-12 OS. I have to say, while I am not a
linux guy, the node seems more stable. The past year, Oracle has issued
updates to VB and for the most part, the updates executed smoothly. Until
version 7.1 came along. The update would fail every single time on three
different computers. Let me explain "update". The software would update
to the version, but I could not start any virtual machines. It would
crash, hard, with an error. I have tried many work arounds which just
proved to be futile. So I reinstalled version 7.022 and I was back to
being operational.
Up until as recent as yesterday, I was unable to get version 7.1
installed. Poking around all of the technical support forums, really just
gave a mix of different solutions. In one instance one solution worked on
one PC. Restarting the service in Windows services.mmc fixed it on another
PC. Some suggestions were to turn off HyperV in Windows. Tried that too.
No dice.
Yesterday , I was able to update the DXSpider machine with VB 7.1. On the
Test Builds site, there is a section for developmental snapshots. I took a
chance to install v 7.1 (167768). This version seems to have corrected
whatever ailed it to get a virtual machine running in Win11.
So if anyone is running into this issue with the 7.1 update for Virtual
Box, this could be a fix for you. So my current install is v7.1(167768)
with HyperV enabled. It works.
