[Dxspider-support] Question about Spot::add_dup. build test-598

Afternoon Kin,

I currently have $Spot::senderverify disabled on WI3W-2. I felt I was
dropping too many valid spots to justify having it enabled. I do use this
node for the contest station I am a part of. These log entries were pulled
from WI3W-3, my test node. WI3W-3 currently only has one connection, WI3W-2.

The first spot logging follows...

The first PC61 came into WI3W-2 from GB7VAX at a hop count of 28, then
decremented and sent out at 27 (seen at WI3W-3) which is how the spot count
on this spot was seen. The second PC61 came into WI3W-2 from KF8I-3 (not in
graphic) at a hopcount of 26. 4 hops versus the 3 you mapped out. Decrement
one more as it was seen on WI3W-3 and there is the hopcount of 25. So far
the hopcounts check out.

On the comment field and the source node, definitely, something funky is
going on. I would, however, like to point out that Keith did say that
HamAward was working on a solution earlier this week. These particular
spots were from the 19th and not recent. I am seeing the same behavior
today. The same callsigns, same nodes, same ip address, and the same spot
comment formats. Now for added info...

IQ3VN shows up as Radio Club Valsugana - O.D.V. Valsugana Servizio
Radio, Borgo Valsugana (TN), IT.

IN3JYO, Manuel Miron, shows in QRZ as a club member and is located in Borgo
Valsugana. On node IW1FRU-74 (PC92A record) earlier today. Spots also seen
from EA4RCH-5 with a departure from HamAward's uniform spot comment.

II3LAG, Radioclub "RCV" Valsugana, located in Borgo Valsugana. On node
IW1FRU-74 (PC92A record) earlier today. Spots also seen from EA4RCH-5 with
a departure from HamAward's uniform spot comment.

The IP address, 195.32.127.23, seems to be a residential address from
DemensiOne (an Italian ISP). This IP address is also running Plex server
and scans as a general purpose firewall/router with several open ports
including 5938, 7547, 32400, and others. Reverse lookup did not reveal any
URLs for that IP other than the ISPs.

It would seem to me that these callsigns have decided to bolster their
HamAward selfspots with manually crafted look alike spots from EA4RCH-5.
Since I can not find PC92 A,D, or C records for these calls in today's logs
from EA4RCH-5, I would lean toward an unknown entity or method in which
these secondary spots are being submitted. Since IQ3VN and II3LAG are club
calls, perhaps we should talk with IN3JYO?

Perhaps the gentleman from HamAward may have an explanation further?

73,

Chris WI3W
