It seems like a great method to keep the node updated. But it makes me wonder if it wouldn’t be worthwhile to incorporate a backup so if things went badly you could restore from the backup. It would only be relevant on Linux systems, but as an IT Systems Administrator it saved me more than once on production systems. Actually it was VMware and I snapshotted it before the upgrade.
