Good Evening All,
A bright but brisk morning in Lincolnshire..... The setting for today's foray. We arrived on time and were soon ready for what the opposition would throw at us... Following a slight delay we eventually were given access to the astro to get preparations underway, to be greeted by a partially frozen pitch. The PB was then delayed until 11.25 to allow a small section of the pitch to thaw. Thank you to all the parents for their patience and their thaw dance.
The team managers, coaches and our umpire agreed that the pitch was safe to play on, with reluctance from the opposition umpire the whistle was blown to signal the start of play. Until that moment, you never can quite tell what this group of youngsters are bringing to the game..... For the initial period the teams appeared relatively evenly matched, Poppy Beales broke away cutting through the Spalding defence to be sent crashing to the floor by a defender inside the D. A penalty flick was awarded which was well placed to be pushed past the left post by the Spalding keeper. The fireworks of a fortnight past were set to continue and it was Pelicans this time that found themselves 1 - nil up inside 5 minutes when Mia Moore opened the scoring, Poppy Beales soon doubled the lead. Millie Bastian and Poppy again added to the tally to give us a 4 - nil lead at half time.
Our girls grew in confidence with some great man to man man marking when in defence and passing hockey when in offence. The second half saw, Poppy double her contribution, Amber Scott score two and Mia score her second. The game finishing 9 - nil. (The rules of the competition state that the result is recorded on Sportlomo as 8 - nil ) Lucy Sagrott a fine display of goal keeping again especially the diving full stretch save to deny Spalding in the closing minutes, a clean sheet may cost dad.. 😉 All of the team gave 100%, Thank you to each and everyone of you. Special thanks to Grace Ashton who made her debut for the team at late notice. Thank you to Saggy for umpiring, and arguing the Pelicans corner for the fixture to be played. Thanks to Christa Beales for #TeamPelican brownies. To all at KLFM and Your Local Paper. Thanks to Collin Picton for coaching the girls, Brian Page for his input today and all the other Pelican coaches and members for their commitment and encouragement on a weekly basis. Finally my wife for putting up with my obsession with hockey.
Finally I hope the injuries to Poppy Beales (sent crashing to the floor), Rebecca Bush (stick to the leg) and Grace Ashton (Ball to the foot) all heal quickly.
Goals: Beales 4, Bastian 1, Moore 2, Scott 2.
Players, Player of the match: Emily Pluck
Players, Clown of the day and proud guardian of the chicken hat until the next game: Amber Scott - for having a hole in her stick and forgetting the goal is the bit between the posts. 😉
Their smiles say it all... Another great day. #TheseGirlsCan
Regards
Glenn
