Dirk,

It's been awhile, but back in June we had discussed a possible addition to
the user prompt which would indicate 'New Mail'.

This addition would only be relevant for NEW & PRIVATE mail to trigger it's
inclusion into the normal user prompt. It would seem your suggestion of a
simple text addition to the user prompt (Example #1) has a possible drawback
though.

Example #1:

K2SC de W4QB 4-Jun-2003 1856Z (New Mail) >

I believe the notification should be sent every 10 minutes, regardless of
spot activity or presence of the user prompt. As you know, during heavy spot
activity sometimes the whole packet screen can be filled and the user
wouldn't ever get a normal prompt anyway. So, unless the user initiated a
command to the cluster or there's at least 10 minutes without any spot
activity, that user wouldn't see the 'New Mail' flag. Therefore, I'm now
suggesting that perhaps a separate line may be a more efficient way of
notifying the user.

Example #2:

DX de K2PLF: 10105.2 3B8CF CQ 0217Z

However, in my opinion either example would be a welcome addition to the
software. I'm not a code writer, so perhaps you can just force a user prompt
(Example #1).

Thanks for your consideration & Happy New Year 2004 !!!
