[Dxspider-support] DB_File (for Windows users)

Hello -

Charlie, K1XX, sent me another (older?) version of DB_File.zip last
evening. I successfully loaded this module without the errors - from
there, I was back on track successfully running DXSpider on my home
computer.

The file version Charlie sent me appears to work with ActivePerl 5.6.1
build 633 (and 630 per another e-mail thread).

Thanks to all - for those of us still doing Windows, I know there is
another level of complexity that we're laying on ourselves. But once
one gets past some of these issues, DXSpider behaves rather nicely on my
DX Cluster (running a simple Pentium MMX200, 64M Ram, Win 98). The
system has run since Thanksgiving with not hiccups.

Thanks again for the support.

Keith, W4QS

Subject: [Dxspider-support] DB_File (for Windows users)

Folks,

I have discussed this matter with the author of DB_File, and he tells me
that this "problem" looks to be entirely of ActiveState's making.

Unfortunately, he doesn't offer a pre-compiled version for Windows use,
and doesn't know of anyone else who does.

The way forwards will be to try a "clean" install using an older version
of DB_File (which I have on a machine at home). I'll do this tomorrow
and feed back the results. If it works, then I can make the package
available.

While I'm about it, I might just try and document what will be necessary
to make Spider work on Windows with Perl 5.8.0 (if it is indeed possible
at all
...)

Regards - Iain
