You can add a blank like after MOTD with this little trick.

Go to the /spider/scripts directory and copy user_default.issue to
user_default.  Edit the user_default file and add the following line at
the top of the file:

blank 1

This means to add one blank line.  There are 5 other lines in that file
that you can leave in or delete as you want for your node.  More
information on this tip can be found in Section 4 of the Admin manual.
