Did you get any conflicts on CVS? Have you been
changing /spider/data/prefix_data.pl (you *naughty* boy, you)?

If this happens then the correct thing to do is:

1. move (rename in M$) the prefix_data.pl file somewhere else (so you
can look at the conflicts).
2. do another CVS update which will recreate the file. 
3. try to restart the node.

If you have modified the prefix_data.pl file then CVS will create
conflict markers in the file. These are syntax errors to perl. Therefore
the node fails to start.
