It just hangs at this point.

Port 23 may be the problem, so I tried port 7300, which is typically 
used:

$ telnet DXC.K2LS.COM 7300
Trying 68.194.70.15...
Connected to ool-44c2460f.dyn.optonline.net.

Greetings from the K2LS node.

It looks like something isn't set up correctly.  Are you running Windows 
or Linux?
