[Dxspider-support] Mandriva 2005 Better?

Everything should be on the SuSE distribution.

Useradd is located in /usr/sbin. That directory is not mapped into normal
accounts. Try to log in as root (su -l root) and see if it works.

The AX.25 stuff is also on the distro. Run YaST, select Add and Remove
Software, set filter to package groups. Under productivity, select
Hamradio. Check off the AX25 stuff and let it install it.

You don't have to mess with the kernel. The AX25 stuff is compiled in as
modules and will load as soon as you try and use them. Just set up the
configurations in /etc/ax25.

Now 9.2 gets a little different. The Ham Radio packages are not on the
CD's. They are on the DVD's. With 9.3, the packages are not on any of the
distros.

In the case of 9.2 with no DVD, you add another "installation source" to
point to a mirror site. This would be something like
ftp://ftp.esat.net/mirrors/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i3386/9.2. This will give
you access to all of the packages that are shipped only on the DVD.

Now with 9.3, you need to add an installation source a bit differently. You
must point to the ham radio "projects" directory. Again, the mirror I use
would be ftp://ftp.esat.net/mirrors/ftp.suse.com/pub/projects.ham/9.3-i386.

The "projects" are going to become more frequent with little used
applications as there is no longer any room on a single DVD to house them
all. In addition, the packages are supported "unofficially". I guess
Novell, who bought SuSE, feels that supporting them is not "profitable".

If you have any other questions on SuSE, contact me off the list.

Madriva Linux? i used to mess with Slackware years ago, soo the first
question would be, what is the easer X to deal with for a some what new-bee
with linux

i just installed SuSE 9.1 and started the installation instructions for a
Spider under linux.. and adduser is not there in SuSE 9.1 or the old useradd
like im used to.. now what, back to slackware?

i also tryed getting the AX25 stuff from the install web page and the link
is busted so far things don't look good, any better directions to get
