I fixed up my problem with ZS6RO-1 Node ...The explanation below is more for
those of you who might follow in my footsteps with a similar problem one
day - HI ...

>From the time I installed my Node (mid-December 2004), I could log onto my
Node using ZS6RO (no ssid), - I was the sysop of my Node ... Everything
worked well until the other day when all I was getting was 'raw' data ... I
couldn't issue any commands at all ...

AFTER putting out my help message to this forum, I tried various things - I
know, I should have done that before jumping onto the forum ... OK, I
panicked HI !!

Ian responded and told me that he had logged on and couldn't see any problem
with my Node from his end ..

That got me thinking - I tried logging on with a different callsign and
found that everything worked normally but I didn't have sysop privs ... So I
figured that I should make another Sysop with another callsign and then log
on with that callsign but how do I do that when I can't issue sysop commands
when I'm logged in and just getting 'raw' data ?? .. I reasoned that I could
copy the installation procedure for creating the initial sysop for the Node
and take it from there ..

What I did now was change the original callsign ZS6RO to ZS1RO in the
DXVars.pm file and then ran create_sysop.pl ... I logged on as ZS1RO and
deleted user ZS6RO ..

I then changed callsign ZS1RO back to ZS6RO in DXVars.pm file and ran
create_sysop.pl again ...

I logged on as ZS6RO and created a password for ZS6RO and looks like I'm
OK again ... <I'm in control again> !!!

 I can't explain why this happened ... I know I hadn't issued any 'funny'
commands while logged in ...

Many thanks to those of you who responded with advice and so on - it is
appreciated ...
