Hi Mike & Dirk,
I'm running on debian sarge 3.1, kernel 2.6.8.

My user has no other choice, his ISP only allows port 443, so I just 
installed rinetd and it works fine with this simple configuration:

# bindadress    bindport  connectaddress  connectport
10.15.20.44 443 10.15.20.44 8000
