  I started out with Slackware kernelversion 0.99 for my first disto back in the 90's and ran my tcpip/ham stuff from that. Around 98 I moved to RH and have pretty much stayed there for my mail/web/file/sql/etc... servers through the years. Around RH6, ham packages started getting hard to find as this was around when Debian and Suse started getting heavily involved. They have definitely raised the bar on the ham side as far as support goes. It really gets down to the fact that I know the RH/Centos ins and outs and can keep the domain running with them. I have been considering moving the ham apps to a remote location (300' away) and will probably explore (again) Suse for that installation. (ran a Suse box for a short time last year thinking I might transition to Suse but the curve was too steep for what little difference it offered)
  Each distro has its advantages and disadvantages as we all know and Centos does not have a large ham following but it does offer what I need for 90%+ of my needs. If I do remote this thing, I will try Suse again for that install and i WILL be looking for some help here  (-;

  Thanks for those who offered assistance/opinions !

  Merry Christmas,

  Have you thought about using openSUSE instead? No compiling
kernels and
rpm's available for the AX.25 stuff and lots of other Ham Radio
software...
