Hi Dirk,
For the manual of installation:
Autostarting the cluster
In Ubuntu 6.10 and above,  missing inittab. In /etc/event.d/tty6 file change the line
exec /sbin/getty 38400 tty6
to
exec /bin/su -c "/usr/bin/perl -w /spider/perl/cluster.pl" sysop > /dev/tty6
