I will clip off your message, as I believe you said you had a limit on
message length on the lists. That said, I know there are still some packet
based online cluster nodes, but I think for the most part the vast majority,
and possibly all including the packet based ones connect via the Internet,
since it just works well. Knowing that, is there really that much issue
with a shortage of bandwidth that it's causing issues?

I for one run an internet connected node, and the bandwidth used by the
cluster is so small, it barely shows on the graphs, heck the node could use
10 meg and it just wouldn't matter now days. As to the multi-connected
nodes, I have always provided a connection to any that have asked, and
probably have 20+ sites linked in, and still no impact on the server or
bandwidth, but will admit I am not doing this on a Pi based board, so sure
if I did that might be an issue.

So to your questions, is the real-time connection and messaging needed, I
don't really use it, but am sure some do. Sure at times it's nice to have,
and if your revamping things, maybe a toggle as to if a node wants to carry
the extra load and pass the traffic, so any that are bandwidth constrained
could opt not to transit that info, and so sites like I have, that don't
really care about bandwidth usage will happily still pass the info. Just a
thought, maybe more complex than desired.

As to max connections, where is that value set?

Usually users only have one connection, but I know one guy that sets up
filters, and has a connection for each band he is contesting on, so for
people that want to do something like that, I again see no issues with
allowing more connections.

Not sure if that was the input you were looking for Dirk, but my .02 for
what it's worth..

73's...
