If you use SD cards for Linux...

Always choose a card larger than you need. Get one rated for "High
Endurance" use like those designed for surveillance cameras. Only
allocate (partition and format) 2/3 of the disk. The unused 1/3 will be
available to be re-mapped by the wear algorithms as bad spots get detected.

Run fstrim on each mount point in a daily cron job.

This will greatly extend the life of an SD card used for Linux. BUT you
still need to back up. I do an rsync of the entire disk on my servers
weekly and I'm using enterprise grade SSD's in a RAID array. With SD
cards you need to be vigilant and expect the drive to fail at some time
in the future.
