Erm.. Sorry Chuck, but no. All protocols in use are TCP based. The 
confusion arises because you are correct that SSL connections will incur 
both extra processor power (not to mention latency) - per connection - 
that normal TCP connections do not. All connections to DXSpider are TCP 
based (even the various radio protocols that are connected to DXSpider 
through adaption software [e.g. AX25 - C client, BPQ and the AGW 
connector]).
