Thanks, Mike! I would have whiffed this important step if you hadn't said something. I just tested the crontab by manually disconnecting from the node and then waited. Sure enough, at 51 past the hour the cron job ran and restarted the connection!

Now that you have that working, the next is /spider/local_cmd/crontab which should have at least an entry like

1,11,21,31,41,51 * * * * start_connect('wr3d') unless connected('wr3d')

which will attempt to reconnect every 10 minutes if the connection is broken. The node callsign you are connecting to should replace wr3d of course...
