Now that you have that working, the next is /spider/local_cmd/crontab 
which should have at least an entry like

1,11,21,31,41,51 * * * * start_connect('wr3d') unless connected('wr3d')

which will attempt to reconnect every 10 minutes if the connection is 
broken. The node callsign you are connecting to should replace wr3d of 
course...
