[Dxspider-support] DXCC entity numbers

When I started in 1997, the only source of country data was from AK1A
Packet Cluster software. DXSpider was, after all, written to be a modern
replacement for AK1A that ran on more (modern) operating systems than
DOS with two floppy disks.  It is possible that other sources were
available but I was not (made?) aware of them.

So wpxloc.raw was the choice. It has a unique key (the country number)
and entries that were additive. That is, new countries are added with
new numbers (unique keys), and old countries are retained which allows
people (that have an interest in this) to analyse this (probably unique)
archive of spots. See: DXSpider Spot archive

I'm sorry I am using the "wrong" number, but it *is* the one I chose 27
1/2 years ago. I realise it appears that it was "not invented here" and
therefore could be ignored whilst ARRL, DXCC and CTY came along and
invented new ones, but I am now stuck with it. Fortunately Jim AD1C
understands my predicament and assiduously adds new country numbers,
where necessary, to allow me to maintain the historical spot database
whilst all the other products change the meaning of their country
numbers as old or renamed countries fall away.

I am _/incredibly/_ grateful to Jim for doing this for me and, by
extension, for*_you_*.

In the meantime Jim and I are starting to have a discussion about
(maybe) putting together something that might allow users that insist on
using (for instance) numeric 'dxcc' numbers, rather than alphanumeric
prefixes, to get the answer that they are looking for rather than some
random old data.
