UI frames very often get lost. When the user port is busy you don't know if
your command got lost or is already in the queue to be replied.

Why not develop an external "proxy"?
The local cluster is broadcasting it's spots. Additionally any user who wants
to retrieve certain data connects to a proxy application.
This program connects the cluster and "forwards" the users' commands.
Only additional traffic is the check-the-line traffic of ax25. Which should
be acceptable (if you are not running dama).

done - also achieved if there is only one user getting all spots of the
network.

But how are users encouraged to enter spots themself?

I would like to have something like a "set/silent" option within dx-spider
which will surpress any spots and announcements but allow to receive talks
and use any other available feature of the cluster (dbs, sh/dx, sh/qrz,
sh/muf, "you have new mail" etc.)
Additional traffic would be (despite the greeting) the dxspider-prompt every
10 minutes (or so) - and users can enter a spot any time they like.
This should be acceptable - even on a busy user port.
This mode could be useful for sysops, too.
