[Dxspider-support] ROS Mode

Ok you didnt' say it was simple to do. You said .". and we can deal with it very easily. It takes seconds to do." Is there a difference?

After I stated
"Some abusers have fixed IPs and have been putting out bogus spots for years...."
you ask me to tell you who they are. I did. Now you tell me they didn't come from your node. And that's the end of your comment about the problem. Not your problem, nothing more you want to say about it.

We are all in this together and need to work together, each one of us doing what we can. Sure others stop bad spots. We all do what we can. The cleaner the network, the better off we all are.

However, you and other sysops keep trying to stop me from doing what I can with comments like
"However, using IP addresses to stop the problem is a complete waste of time and will cause more problems with disgruntled users than it solves" I doubt that it is waisting anyone's time except mine. Why would users be disgruntled? Because they got caught maybe? Otherwise, what have they to complain about?

I am not asking you to drop YOUR spots by looking at IP addresses. Why do you care if I see what your IP addresses your user spots come from. Maybe I might find something.

I found bogus spots on DX Summit and found a user connected to my cluster from the same IP address. He always behaved on my cluster and always used other calls when on DX Summit. I have found exactly the same thing happening on another CC Cluster. The bad user on the other CC Cluster had been booted from a Spider cluster after I told the Spider sysop that there was spotting abuse on his Spider node. He then moved to a CC Cluster. After he got booted from the CC Cluster he disappeared. I doubt that he changed his ways. He is probably hiding somewhere else.

I never said that Lee and personal insults do not wash with me. You have not read my previous post at all. You shout and scream but apart from blaming other sysops you have had nothing positive to say at all. You claim to be trying to help the network but you are being diversive and personally insulting. I don't see what that achieves. I actually do care very much about the network and try to protect it as much as I can. I can also debate without resorting to personal jibes :)

You are one of the sysops I mentioned a few messages back.
If it doesn't come from your node you could care less about it. Bogus etc who cares.

This spot didn't show up on my node. My users are happy. Your users get the crap.

As I said, it does not come from my node.

You talk a good talk, but the results speak for themselves.

I mentioned BX5AA putting out bogus spots a while back. When I connect to your cluster I see the following spot

        CC11^14257.0^BX5AA^13-Jun-2010^1136Z^^N0JH^9^226^K1TTT-14^44^24^7^4^^CO^Taiwan-BV^CO-Colorado-K^PL04^

This spot is bogus. It came from Taiwan. From the same IP that BX5AA uses to put out spots.

You say its simple to fix. Fix it please.

        Lee

So what are the callsigns involved? Tell us and we can deal with it very easily. It takes seconds to do. Trying to regulate the cluster with a stick is not the way forward. What we need is education. I try to help my users and explain to them why correct procedure is important. If I were to spot any wrongdoings from either of my clusters I would take a very dim view indeed of it and would have words with the person involved. I take my responsibilities as a sysop very seriously.

as list of abuser's IP addresses and drop their spots no matter where
                they came from.

Well, what do you do with dynamic IP addresses?

On my side, my IP address on the WAN side is forced to a new value after a maximum of 20 hours and this is the same with all ADSL (and cable? not 100% sure) users in my country (and many others I believe, with just a different time interval), except a few ones who agree to pay an extra fee for a fixed IP address.

Even worse, if I would misbehave right now and you would put me on your IP addresses blacklist, my current address could be reattributed tomorrow to an honest user who would be blocked without having done anything wrong. And I would be able to continue "cluster spamming" with my new address!
