You should have tty6 commented out in the inittab.

Type "netstat --inet -l" and see if the cluster is listening on localhost:27754

Try disabling IP version 6

Do you have the link for directory /spider defined?

Try "perl -W /spider/perl/console.pl

All I can think of right now...
