Hi Ryan,
More information is needed to answer your questions with any certainty.  What is your system and what version of DXSpider are you using?

That said, here is a punt at possible issues.

I have never had an issue with having to rerun create_sysop in all the years I have been running DXSpider and I include the ‘beta’ years right at the beginning.  Are all your permissions set correctly?

A node, once connected, should, in general, stay connected.  Have you set the connection as a node and has the other end of the link done the same?

As for reconnecting automatically, this is done with the crontab file
